沿革
The journey to founding the company / 創業に至る道のり
The president of Central Bussan Co., Ltd.; KATSUHIKO UWAYA, was born in 1943 in Kouun-village in Yamanashi prefecture, a village that would later become Kofu City after his father, the village mayor, carried out a municipal merger. This is where our head office is located, 100 km far from Tokyo. He majored in Food Science in Tokyo University of Agriculture and was employed by Tohato Tokyo Cenfectionery company (currently: Tohato Inc.), one of the Japanese major snack food manufacturers today.
After five years of working in the R&D in Tohato (1971), he developed an extruded corn puff snack ‘Caramel Corn’ (photoleft). This product was a blockbuster, the annual sales were exceptional compared to other snack foods at that time, over 30 billion Yen. He developed potato ring snack ‘Poteco’ (photo-right) in 1972. This was also a big hit. These products are still representative of well selling products in the Japanese market and greatly loved by many people for more than 50 years.
創業者 上矢克彦は、1943 年に山梨県西山梨郡甲運村に生まれました。1954年、村長であった上矢の父が市町村合併を行なって以降、甲運村は現在の甲府市へと編入いたします。東京から100km離れたこの地に、株式会社セントラル物産の本社があります。
上矢は、東京農業大学農学部農芸化学科にて食品科学を専攻し、卒業後、東鳩東京製菓株式会社（現株式会社東ハト様）に就職いたします。5年間研究開発室に所属した後の1971年、押し出し成形コーンパフスナック「キャラメルコーン」(写真左)を開発しました。翌1972年にはポテトリングスナック「ポテコ」（写真右）を開発。どちらの商品も現在まで売れ筋商品として、50年以上にわたり多くの人に愛され続けています。
In 1974, he suddenly decided to return to Yamanashi to live with his physically handicapped mother, and due to the situation, he independently started his own company Central Bussan. He firstly started the business of fish farming in Tilapia by using hot springs, and became the first pioneer in the field in Japan. At the same time, he started trading food materials and foods with Asian countries such as Hong Kong, China, South Korea, Philippines, and etc.
1974年、上矢は身体に不自由がある母親と暮らすため、東鳩を退職し、突如山梨に戻ることになります。
同年、有限会社上矢養魚場、後の株式会社セントラル物産を設立。
日本で最初の、自噴温泉を利用したティラピア養殖事業をスタートさせパイオニアとなりました。
同時に開始した、香港、中国、韓国、フィリピンなど、アジア諸国との食材や食品の取引が、後の事業の礎となります。
Expanding network of friendship and business / 広がる友好と事業の輪
The aquaculture business, which continued for over 20 years, was eventually closed due to the collapse of the tilapia price and other circumstances. Alongside the fish farming business, the food business with Asian countries grew, and Uwaya changed the business model in 1977, and Central Bussan Co., Ltd. gradually shifted to a food-centered business. One of the great projects that Uwaya achieved in his business life was that he organized a joint venture company with Four Seas Mercantile Limited, Tohato Inc., and Central Bussan in mainland China in the 1980s. Four Seas is a listed company in Hong Kong, dedicated to distributing high quality and tasty foods from all over the world to Hong Kong/Chinese consumers, and is named as one of the “300 Best Small Companies” by Forbes. The joint venture company manufactured snack foods with Uwaya’stechnology and the snack business has greatly succeeded in Hong Kong and mainland China.
After experience with a joint ventured snack manufacturing plant in China, a material factory in China, a joint venture company in Hong Kong, and handling food ingredients from the United States, Australia, New Zealand, etc., entral Bussan has begun to focus on European food ingredients in the late 1980s.
20 年以上続いた養魚事業は、後にティラピアの価格暴落などの事情で幕を引くことになります。
養殖事業の傍ら、アジア諸国との食品事業の成長が台頭し、上矢は 1977 年に事業形態を改め、株式会社セントラル物産は徐々に食品中心の事業に転換します。
中でも大きなプロジェクトの１つは、1980 年代に中国本土で四洲貿易有限公司、東ハト、セントラル物産との合弁会社を設立したことです。
四洲貿易は、世界中の食品を香港/中国の消費者に提供し、フォーブス誌の「ベストスモールカンパニー300」に選ばれる香港の上場企業です。
同合弁会社は上矢の技術でスナック食品を製造し、スナック事業は香港と中国本土で成功を収めました。
セントラル物産は、中国での合弁スナック製造工場及び原料工場、香港での合弁会社、米国、オーストラリア、ニュージーランドほか、各国の食品原料取り扱いなどの経験を経て、1980年代後半からヨーロッパの食品原材料に重点を置き始めます。
To supply safer products / より安全な製品を
In the early 1990s, with the start of commercial use of
genetically modified crops in the agricultural sector in the U.S.A., Central Bussan started to do more business with European suppliers.
At the same time, the company welcomed the second generation of employees and began to focus on handling safer, higher quality food ingredients with detailed specifications and building cooperative relationships with suppliers.
Currently, Central Bussan is utilizing its experience and knowledge to provide high-quality food ingredients, a variety of foods, food machinery and machinery parts, food technology, and more, to Asian and domestic markets. End customers are representative manufacturers including for foods and confectioneries in Japan and neighboring countries including listed companies, many of the relationships with those companies have been built by the president and continued in past long years. The company also holds its own developments such as Baked Potato Chips, snack production lines, etc.
We will continue to work on supplying high quality and safe foods, food materials and machineries by combining technology and knowledge.
1990 年代初頭、米国における農業分野で遺伝子組み換え作物の商業利用が始まったことを機に、セントラル物産は欧州のサプライヤーとの取引を拡大しました。
同時に次世代の従業員を迎え、より安全で高品質な食品原材料の取り扱いと、詳細な仕様への取り組み、サプライヤーとの協力関係の構築に注力し始めました。
現在、セントラル物産は国内・アジア市場に、高品質な食品原材料、各種食品、食品機械・機械部品、食品技術を提供しています。
最終ユーザー様は、上場企業を含む食品・菓子などの代表的メーカーであられ、それらの企業との関係の多くは、上矢が長年にわたり築き上げてきたものです。
また、ベイクドポテトチップスやスナック製造ラインなど、自社開発品も保有しています。
